SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (2-0) took a two games to none lead in its series against Saint Martin's (0-2) with a 17-13 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at CSUSM Baseball Field.

The second game of the day was suspended due to darkness with two outs in the top of the seventh and CSUSM ahead 6-5. The game will resume at 11 a.m. on Sunday prior to the scheduled noon series finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints struck for five runs in the top of the first on an RBI single by Hunter Sasaki and four bases-loaded walks.
- A three-run homer by Hayden Trgidga cut the deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the first.
- Saint Martin's tacked on two more runs in the top of the second with an RBI double from Alex Hartnett and a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-3.
- CSUSM knotted the game at 7-all in the bottom of the second as Jake Adams scored on a wild pitch, Phoenix Sommay scored on a hit-by-pitch, Garrett Teunissen scored on a wild pitch and Cameron Mahaffy scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Marco Pirruccello.
- An RBI single by Tregidga and a two-run single by Nico Vallarelli gave CSUSM a 10-7 lead in the bottom of the third.
- SMU made it a 10-9 game in the top of the fifth with a Cade Gibson sac fly and a Sasaki RBI single.
- Sommay scored on infield error before Tyler Weaver had an RBI single to make it 12-9 in the bottom of the fifth.
- Fisher Pyatt scored on an error after a sac bunt by Sommay before Mahaffy hit a grand slam to put CSUSM up 17-9 in the bottom of the sixth.
- A two-run homer by Peter Hollabaugh and an RBI double by Alex Hartnett cut the Saints' deficit to 17-12 in the top of the seventh.
- An Evan Nicol RBI double wrapped up the scoring in the top of the ninth to make it 17-13.

- Cougar reliever Porter Robinson (1-0) earned the win after striking out two and allowing two earned runs on six hits in 3.1 innings.
