SAN DIEGO – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (3-1) earned a 68-66 victory over Western Oregon in the PLNU Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday at Golden Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- WOU held a 24-20 lead after the first quarter following a Salma Youngblood layup with 38 seconds on the clock. Â
- Tatum Tamashiro scored seven consecutive early in the second quarter, including a jumper at 7:34 and a three-pointer 34 seconds later to cut the deficit to 29-27.
- Sophie Morales tied the game at 6:20 with a jumper, and Kristan Yumul's three at 3:02 gave CSUSM its first lead at 35-32.
- Tamashiro sunk four free throws to help CSUSM take a 39-37 halftime lead after shooting 39.4% (13-of-33) to WOU's 48.3% (14-of-29).
- CSUSM went up 42-37 in the third on Maddie Leiva's 3-pointer at 7:54, but WOU answered with a 7-0 run capped by Youngblood's free throws at 5:28 for a 46-44 lead.
- The third quarter ended tied 55-55 after Morales scored with 22 seconds on the clock.
- Tamashiro's putback at 2:36 pushed the lead to 64-60, and Morales hit two free throws at 51 for a 68-63 cushion.
- WOU's Enid Vaifauna made a driving layup at 43 seconds and made one of two free throws with one second on the clock, but CSUSM was able to hold on for the 68-66 win.
