Cougars Dominate Late to Secure 62-50 Win Over Point Loma

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (2-0) closed out the CCAA/PacWest Challenge with a 62-50 victory over Point Loma (0-2) on Saturday afternoon at The Sports Center.

  • Ruby Vlahov sparked Point Loma early with a layup and later a three-pointer during a 7-0 run that gave the Sea Lions their largest lead of the game at 9-2 in the first quarter.
  • Point Loma led 11-10 after the opening period as CSUSM closed the gap with a 6-0 run.
  • Kristan Yumul answered in the second quarter with back-to-back threes, including one at 9:19 and another at 5:43, helping CSUSM erase the deficit and tie the game at 18-18.
  • Sophie Morales scored a key layup at 4:01 in the second quarter and added two free throws in the closing seconds of the half to keep CSUSM ahead 28-27 at the break after shooting 41.2% (7-of-17) compared to PLNU's 58.3% (7-of-12).
