SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team (1-10, 1-4 CCAA) concluded its trip to the Bay Area with an 80-72 loss to San Francisco State (5-7, 3-3 CCAA) on Saturday at The Swamp.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Beginning the game with a 4-0 deficit, a 3-pointer by Veljko Muntilak and Kyelin King layup put the Cougars up for the first time at 5-4 with at the 16:31 mark.
• After a Donovan Watkins layup gave CSUSM a 15-14 lead with 8:49 remaining in the period, SF State went on a 10-0 run that was capped by a John Bakke driving layup to make it 24-15 with 5:12 to go in the half.
• After a CSUSM foul with 14 seconds remaining in the period, SF State's Caden Flowers made two free throws to give the Gators their largest lead of the half at 36-23.
• A driving layup by Watkins at the buzzer ended the first half with CSUSM trailing 36-25.
• The Cougars shot 30.3% (10-of-33) from the field in the first half while the Gators shot 55.6% (15-of-27).
• SF State began the second half on an 11-0 run and took its largest lead of the game at 47-25 on a Caleb Oden 3-pointer with 17:27 remaining.
• With 1:35 to go, CSUSM finally brought the deficit back to single digits at 72-63 on a Micah Boone 3-pointer and made it a seven-point game at 79-72 on a Keavie Love driving layup with eight seconds to go.
• The Cougars shot 48.3% (14-of-29) from the field in the second half while the Gators were slightly better at 50% (14-of-28).

 
FAST BREAKS

• CSUSM ended the game shooting 38.7% (24-of-62) from the field while SF State finished at 52.7% (29-of-55).
• The Cougars had the edge in steals (8-5) and committed fewer turnovers (14-17), while the Gators had the advantage in rebounds (38-36) and assists (15-5). Both teams tallied four blocked shots.
• CSUSM took advantage of SF State's 17 turnovers by scoring 22 points off them.
• Love's 22 points led all scorers and were a season high. He scored 20 of them in the second half alone while going 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.
• This was SF State's fourth consecutive win against CSUSM and third straight in San Francisco.
