Cougars Earn 2-0 Shutout Win at Biola

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The (RV) Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (3-1-1) earned its second consecutive shutout win with a 2-0 victory at Biola (0-3-2) on Saturday night at Al Barbour Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 22nd minute of play, Kayla Knoob won the foot race to a pass down the right side and into the box. She immediately sent a pass to the middle of the box to Brianna Delgado, who put a shot into the middle of the net to give CSUSM a 1-0 lead.
  • After 45 minutes, CSUSM had the advantage in shots (5-4), shots on goal (3-2) and corner kicks (3-0) as Knoob led the period with three shots and two shots on goal.
  • The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the 54th minute of play. Battling for possession just outside the top of the box, Emily Mahmoud took control and found Knoob sprinting towards the middle of the box. After Knoob received the pass from Mahmoud, Knoob put a shot into the right side of the goal to put the Cougars up 2-0.
 
QUICK KICKS
  • Knoob's goal was her team-leading fourth of the season while her assist was the first of her collegiate career. She now leads the team with nine points for the year.
  • Delgado's goal was her first of the year and sixth in her collegiate career.
  • Mahmoud's assist was her first of the season and second of her collegiate career.
  • Marcure recorded her third shutout in goal this season and the 31st of her career.
  • CSUSM had the advantage in shots (9-8), shots on goal (5-3) and corner kicks (8-0) despite only having possession for 47% of the game.
  • Of the Cougars' possessions, 67% occurred in Eagle territory.
  • This was CSUSM's first win in La Mirada since 2011.

CSUSM will return to The Cage on Wednesday for its next-to-last non-conference match as it faces Concordia University Irvine at 3 p.m.
