CSUSM Travels to Biola for Saturday Night Matchup

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The (RV) Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (2-1-1) will travel to Biola (0-2-2) for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Saturday in La Mirada.
 
LAST WEEK
  • CSUSM went 1-0-1 last week as it took a 1-1 draw at Azusa Pacific on Thursday before posting a dominant 3-0 shutout against Colorado State Pueblo on Sunday.
  • Kayla Knoob scored her team-leading second and third goals of the season, posting a goal in each game.
  • Kaci Embree scored her first career goals against CSU Pueblo with a two-goal day.
 
COUGARS BY THE NUMBERS
  • For the second consecutive week, CSUSM received votes in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll.
  • Kayla Knoob's three goals rank 19th nationally and second in the CCAA.
  • CSUSM is taking the 29th-most corner kicks per game in the nation at 6.50 while ranking second in the conference.
  • The Cougars also rank second in the league with a scoring offense of 1.50,
  • CSUSM has the third-best goals-against average in the conference at .750.
  • With a shot accuracy of .535, the Cougars rank fourth in the CCAA.

SATURDAY AT BIOLA
  • Biola tied No. 25 Cal State LA by a score of 1-1 on Wednesday night.
  • Saturday will be the fourth consecutive home game for the Eagles as they had a scoreless draw against Sonoma State on Monday after a 2-1 loss to Cal State East Bay last Thursday.
  • Marije Rechin and Briley Phelps have scored the Eagles' lone two goals this season.
  • The Eagles are averaging just 6.25 shots per game to rank 237th nationally while their 3.25 shots on goal per game rank 228th.
  • CSUSM is 4-6-4 in the all-time series against Biola since its inception in 2006.
  • Last year, the Cougars fell 2-1 to the Eagles in San Marcos.

  • The Cougars' roster of 32 includes 22 returners and 10 newcomers who are all freshmen.
  • Returners Natalia Huntington, Nani Kia'aina, Allison Marcure and Natalie Paulson were named to the 2024 CCAA Women's Soccer Watchlist after earning first or second-team All-CCAA honors in 2023 or were voted to the CCAA All-Tournament Team.
  • Natalie Paulson was the 2023 CCAA Player and Defender of the Year and went on to earn All-America first-team and All-Region honors.
  • Of CSUSM's 32 goals scored in 2023, 28 of them were scored by 2024 returners.

THE RENNEISEN FILE

  • Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his 11th year in charge of the women's program and 19th overall at CSUSM.
  • Renneisen coached the Cougars to their first CCAA Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023 with an 11-3-6 (6-0-5 CCAA) record while finishing second in the CCAA standings.
  • Renneisen and his assistant coaches were named the 2023 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II West Region Staff of the Year.
  • Renneisen's 2018 team made its second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance while also handing No. 1 UC San Diego its lone regular-season loss.
  • Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams.
