No. 7 CSUSM Splits Friday's Doubleheader Against SF State

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 7 Cal State San Marcos softball team (11-6, 5-5 CCAA) split Friday's doubleheader against San Francisco State (6-12, 3-7 CCAA), taking game one 6-2 before falling 5-4 in 10 innings in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSM went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first after Waymire led off the game with a triple and scored on a wild pitch.
  • In the third inning, the Cougars went up 5-0 on a Waymire home run, a Kestler RBI single and a two-run homer by Albayati.
  • CSUSM extended its lead to 6-0 with a Delaney Prater RBI single in the fifth. 
  • The Gators prevented a shutout in the sixth inning as Mackenzie Stenson hit a 2-RBI single to center field.
     
QUICK HITS
  • CSUSM starter Jayline Sloss (7-1) collected the win after tossing a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits and fanning one.
  • SFSU starter Kaitlyn Maddux picked up the loss after just 2.2 innings in the circle, relinquishing five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Gators jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Mackenzie Stenson home run to right.
  • SF State doubled its lead in the fourth on Kira Nilson's RBI single to left field.
  • The Cougars went on top in the fourth at 3-2, scoring on a Gator error, a fielder's choice and an RBI single by Olivia Rivera.
  • CSUSM made it 4-2 with Prater's RBI single to left field in the fifth inning.
  • A Nilson 2-RBI double to right evened the game at 4-all in the sixth inning.
  • The Gators went up 5-4 in the top of the 10th inning on a CSUSM error.
  • Guiliano led off the bottom of the 10th with a triple to right but SF State's relief pitcher Elise Roy retired the next three Cougars to clinch the win.

QUICK HITS
  • CSUSM starter Savannah Coyle (4-4) took the loss after going 9.0 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and one walk while striking out seven batters.
  • Roy (3-4) picked up the win after 4.2 shutout innings of work, giving up three hits and three walks.
