HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (17-11, 16-7 CCAA) ended its rain-shortened series at Cal State East Bay (15-16, 7-12 CCAA) with a 17-3 win on Saturday at Pioneer Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning with a two-run single through the left side by Rivera.
- A solo homer by Luke Brown cut the Pioneers' deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the first.
- CSUSM went up by two once again in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly to right by Rivera that scored Reece and made it 3-1.
- A one-out solo shot by Ku gave the Cougars a 4-1 lead in the top of the fourth.
- CSUSM posted eight runs on six hits and error in the top of the fifth to go up to 12-1.
- The top of the seventh saw a two-run blast by Mahaffy, a solo shot by Victor Castaneda and a wild pitch that scored Chesterton to give the Cougars a 16-1 lead.
- A solo shot by Ruben Cedillo in the top of the ninth was CSUSM's final run as it took a 17-1 lead.
- The Pioneers mustered two more runs on a homer by Donovan Bailey in the bottom of the ninth to make it 17-3.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM reliever Isaac Ontiveros (3-0) earned the win after tossing 3.2 innings with two strikeouts while allowing just five hits and a walk.
- CSUEB starter Derek Murphy (1-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two in 3.0 innings.
- Sommay increased his reached-base streak to 23 games and moved his hitting streak to 19 games.
- This was CSUSM's third game of the year with 17 runs.
