TURLOCK, Calif. – The No. 19 Cal State San Marcos softball team (17-10) opened Stanislaus State's Tournament of Champions with two victories on Thursday at Warrior Field. The Cougars recorded a 4-0 shutout win over No. 16 Northwest Nazarene (18-5) before ending the night with a 7-1 victory against Hawaii Hilo (13-12).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After hitting the first two batters of the game, CSUSM starting pitcher Jayline Sloss got out of the jam with the next batter hitting into a double play before recording the final out of the first inning with a ground out to shortstop.
- After drawing a leadoff walk, Donnelly advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt before scoring on Kestler's RBI single to center field. Kestler later scored on a fielder's choice. Klarissa Munoz, who was pitch running for Ellie Alvarez, ended the scoring with a squeeze bunt by Madison Waymire to give CSUSM a 3-0 lead in the top of the fifth.
- The Cougars added to their lead in the top of the seventh on Fleischman's RBI single to center that plated Kestler to make it 4-0.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM reliever Jayline Sloss (10-2) tossed a three-hit, complete-game shutout with six strikeouts while walking only one batter.
- NNU starter Sidney Booth (12-3) went 6.2 innings, allowing four runs on three hits and three walks while fanning seven batters.
- With two in this game, the Cougars have tallied a CCAA-best 15 double plays this season, which ranks them second in Division II.
- CSUSM leads the all-time series at 2-1 against NNU.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM got out ahead first with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring on an Alvarez RBI double to right center that plated Prater who drew a two-out walk.
- The Vulcans evened the game at 1-all in the third on a bases-loaded groundout by Lexie Tilton.
- Waymire put the Cougars back on top at 2-1 with an RBI single to right in the fifth inning.
- The game was blown wide open in the bottom of the sixth as CSUSM scored five runs on four hits and three UHH errors to make it 7-1.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM reliever Dahlia Fink (2-1) collected the win after pitching three shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out two.
- UHH starter Chloe Sales (1-5) gave up six runs (four earned) on seven hits and one walk in 5.2 innings.
- With the win, CSUSM evened the all-time series at 1-1 against UHH.
