SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 19 Cal State San Marcos softball team (14-9) split its third consecutive non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, taking game one 13-3 in nine innings at No. 20 Concordia University Irvine (22-5) before falling 3-0 in the nightcap in Irvine.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A double steal with runners on the corners that resulted in a CUI error gave CSUSM a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
- A two-run homer by Missy Nemeth in the third inning put the Golden Eagles up 2-1.
- In the top of the fifth, CSUSM retook the lead at 3-2 on a Waymire RBI single up the middle and a Guiliano RBI double down the right line.
- CUI answered with a Rylie Rohr home run in the bottom of the fifth to even the game at 3-all.
- In the ninth, CSUSM's bats exploded as Arredondo hit a solo home run to begin the inning and break the 3-all tie. Donnelly hit a bases-clearing double to make it 7-3. The final six runs came on a CUI error, an RBI double by Alvarez, an RBI single by Arredondo, a Kestler RBI groundout and a 2-RBI single by Waymire.

- CSUSM reliever Jayline Sloss (9-2) took the win after 4.2 shutout innings, allowing five hits and three walks.
- CUI starter Kaitlin Entrup (9-4) picked up the loss after five runs (three earned) on nine hits and one walk while striking out five batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Eagles went up 1-0 in the second inning on a Rylie Rohr home run, her second of the day.
- In the sixth, CUI extended its lead to 3-0 on a sacrifice fly by Rohr and a CSUSM error.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM starter Dillyn Collins took the loss after giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks in six innings in the circle.
- CUI starter Cortney Koelmans tossed a two-hit, complete-game shutout, striking out 10 batters and walking one.
