SAN MARCOS, Calif. – For the second consecutive day, the No. 9 Cal State San Marcos softball team (14-9) split its non-conference doubleheader, this time against the Cougars of Azusa Pacific (15-9). CSUSM fell 1-0 in the twinbill opener before rallying back for a 4-1 victory in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The lone run came on a solo shot by Katie Korstrom in the top of the fifth on the 10th pitch she faced. Â
- In the sixth and seventh innings, CSUSM left runners in scoring position. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- All the scoring came in the first inning with APU taking a 1-0 lead on an Aly Montesino RBI single to left center in the top of the frame.
- CSUSM answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame as Donnelly and Albayati each knocked out 2-RBI doubles to make it 4-1.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM starter Jayline Sloss got a no decision, going three inning and allowing one run on five hits and one walk.
- CSUSM reliever Savannah Coyle (5-6) recorded the win after four innings of shutout ball, giving up just three hits and walking none while striking out two.
- APU starter Aly Montesino relinquished four runs (three earned) on three hits in just 0.1 inning.
- CSUSM is now 19-13 in the all-time series against APU and leads the season series 2-1.
