SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team (8-13, 7-8 CCAA) fell 80-61 against Cal State San Bernardino (16-5, 11-4 CCAA) on Saturday at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams stayed within two points of each other for the first eight minutes of play and were tied at 10-all with 11:58 to go in the half.
- The Coyotes scored eight consecutive points immediately after and took an 18-10 lead on a second-chance layup by LeAndrew Knight with 8:28 remaining in the period.
- The Cougars then scored six unanswered points and made it an 18-16 game following a Collins layup with 6:06 to play in the half.
- CSUSB took its first double-digit lead of the game at 30-20 on an Evan Guillory layup with 3:17 left in the period.
- CSUSM cut CSUSB's halftime lead to 33-28 with a jumper by Collins and a 3-pointer by Tengan before the end of the period.
- The Cougars had the better shooting performance in the first 20 minutes as they went 36.1% (13-of-36) from the field while the Coyotes went 35.5% (11-of-31).
- CSUSM was able to knot the game at 39-all with 16:02 remaining on a layup and the first of two free throws by Chris Howard.
- CSUSB never allowed CSUSM to take control of the lead and soon went back up by double digits at 58-47 with 10:53 to go.
- The Coyotes took their largest lead of the game at 80-58 as a layup by Robby Robinson made it a 22-point game with 2:03 to play.
- CSUSB shot 50% (19-of-38) from the field in the second half while holding CSUSM to 38.2% (13-of-34).

- CSUSM ended the game shooting 37.1% (26-of-70) from the field while CSUSB finished at 43.5% (30-of-69).
- With the loss, CSUSM and CSUSB split the season series. The Cougars won the first game against the Coyotes by a score of 84-77 on Jan. 11 in San Bernardino.
- The Coyotes had the advantage in rebounds (48-37), assists (16-8) and blocked shots (4-3) while committing fewer turnovers (13-10).
- CSUSB's Robinson led the game with 24 points and 17 boards.
- Collins led CSUSM in scoring for the 11th time this season.
- This was the Cougars' first home loss to the Coyotes since Jan. 16, 2020.
