SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 7 Cal State San Marcos softball team (6-1) pulled off a doubleheader sweep with 2-1 and 1-0 victories over No. 14 Adelphi on Sunday afternoon in the Cougars' home opener at CSUSM Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly to left field by Courtney Wengryn.
- CSUSM evened it in the bottom of the fifth at 1-1 on a Panther error that plated pinch runner Klarissa Munoz.
- The Cougars scored the game-winning run on another Adelphi error in the bottom of the sixth.

- CSUSM starter Jayline Sloss (4-0) recorded her fourth win of the season after going six innings in the circle, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while collecting two strikeouts.
- Reliever Savannah Coyle (2) registered her second save of 2024 after one inning of action.
- Adelphi starter and 2023 NFCA Pitcher of the Year Lindsey Hibbs (0-1) went all seven innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and one walk while fanning four batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After seven scoreless innings, the international tie-breaker came into effect with each team putting a runner on second to begin the inning.
- After striking out the first batter in the top of the eighth, Alexa Scripante reached base on an error. The Cougars got out of the inning on a pop up in foul territory and a fielder's choice.
- Waymire led off the inning with a sacrifice bunt to move Czar Fleischman to third. After a pop up, Fleischman scored on a passed ball to clinch the sweep. Â
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM starter Savannah Coyle (2-0) tossed eight shutout innings, allowing only two hits and no walks while striking out four batters.
- Adelphi's starter Lily Kenney (0-0) got a no decision after going five innings in the circle, allowing no runs on four hits and walking two.
- Game one starter Lindsey Hibbs (0-2) took the loss after coming into the game in relief, giving up one unearned run on one hit and two strikeouts.
- These were the first two matchups between the two teams.
