SAN MARCOS, Calif. ­­– The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (6-3-4, 3-2-1 CCAA) will play its final two road games of the regular season at Cal State Dominguez Hills (4-4-4, 2-1-3 CCAA) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and at Cal State LA (6-3-3, 3-3-0 CCAA) on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
 
LAST WEEK

• The Cougars had to settle for a scoreless draw against Cal State Monterey Bay last Thursday at home.
• CSUSM concluded the weekend with a 1-0 win at San Francisco State on a Danielle Paulson goal following a corner kick.
• Paulson scored her team-leading third game-winning goal of the year and is tied for the team lead in total goals with four.

• CSUSM enters the weekend third in the CCAA standings with 10 points. It sits one point behind second-place Cal State San Bernardino and four behind first-place Cal Poly Pomona while maintaining a one-point lead over a three-way tie consisting of Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State LA and Cal Poly Humboldt.
• At 186 career saves, Allison Marcure is one away from tying former Cougar Kaycee Gunion's record of 187 saves set from 2008-11 and is two away from setting a new program record.

FRIDAY AGAINST THE TOROS

• Dominguez Hills is coming off a pair of draws to Cal State San Bernardino (1-1) and Cal Poly Pomona (0-0) this past weekend.
• CSUDH sits in a three-way tie for fourth in the CCAA standings.
• The Toros are allowing the fifth-most goals per game in the conference at 1.333 while scoring the seventh most at 1.17 per game.
• CSUDH is putting up the second-fewest shots on goal per game in the league at 3.58 while also posting the second-worst shot accuracy at .426.
• Senior forward Alyssa Villalobos leads the Toros with four goals, three assists and 11 points this season.

FINAL ROAD GAME AT CAL STATE LA

• The Golden Eagles enter the week on a three-game skid that began on Oct. 13. Since then, LA has fallen 1-0 to Cal Poly Humboldt, 2-1 to Cal Poly Pomona and 1-0 to Cal State San Bernardino.
• Prior to facing CSUSM, LA will take on Cal State East Bay on Friday.
• The Golden Eagles are tied for fourth in the CCAA standings.
• LA has the third-best goals-against average (.750) and scoring offense (1.42) in the CCAA.
• The Golden Eagles' worst team ranking is their shot accuracy of .451 which ranks eighth in the conference.
• Delia Bocanegra leads LA with four goals and 10 points this season while also tallying two assists.

2024 OUTLOOK

• After a historic 2023 season, CSUSM was just barely picked to finish second in 2024 CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll, finishing one point behind Cal Poly Pomona.
• The Cougars' roster of 32 includes 22 returners and 10 newcomers who are all freshmen.
• Returners Natalia Huntington, Nani Kia'aina, Allison Marcure and Natalie Paulson were named to the 2024 CCAA Women's Soccer Watchlist after earning first or second-team All-CCAA honors in 2023 or were voted to the CCAA All-Tournament Team.
• Natalie Paulson was the 2023 CCAA Player and Defender of the Year and went on to earn All-America first-team and All-Region honors.
• Of CSUSM's 32 goals scored in 2023, 28 of them were scored by 2024 returners.

 

THE RENNEISEN FILE

• Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his 11th year in charge of the women's program and 19th overall at CSUSM.
• Renneisen coached the Cougars to their first CCAA Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023 with an 11-3-6 (6-0-5 CCAA) record while finishing second in the CCAA standings.
• Renneisen and his assistant coaches were named the 2023 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II West Region Staff of the Year.
• Renneisen's 2018 team made its second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance while also handing No. 1 UC San Diego its lone regular-season loss.
• Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams.
• As the women's head coach, Renneisen is 70-55-45 (.544) for his career with the Cougars.
