CSUSM Defeats Chico State in Four Sets

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (5-8, 3-2 CCAA) collected a come-from-behind four-set victory over Chico State (4-5, 1-4 CCAA) on Friday night in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After being tied 3-3 in the first set, the Wildcats ran away with the lead and tallied a 25-12 win. Chico had 18 kills for the set while posting no errors with a .621 hitting percentage.
  • Once again tied at 3-3 in the second set, CSUSM posted four consecutive kills and led for the remainder of the frame before taking a 25-19 win. The Cougars hit .366 for the set with 19 kills and four aces.
  • The Cougars took a 2-1 lead for the match with a 25-15 third-set win as they led wire-to-wire. CSUSM hit .313 while holding Chico to a match-low .133.
  • CSUSM earned the match win in the fourth set with a 25-20 victory after leading wire-to-wire for the second consecutive frame.
QUICK HITS
  • Gurrola's .542 clip with 14 kills on 24 attempts and one errors were a career best.
  • Beilby's 15 digs were a career high in a three-set match.
  • CSUSM's 10 aces tied for the second highest this season with 14 season-best accomplished against Concordia University Irvine (Sept. 7).
  • CSUSM tallied 57 kills to Chico's 49.
  • The Cougars extended its win streak over the Wildcats to seven matches.
  • CSUSM is 9-3 in the all-time series and 5-1 when playing at home.
