Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

CSUSM Falls 2-1 to Biola

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (3-2-0) suffered a 2-1 loss to Biola (1-5-1) on Wednesday afternoon at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the middle of CSUSM territory, Phelps made a pass down the field through traffic to the top of the box, where Havens took possession and shot the ball past the CSUSM keeper from the penalty marker and into the center of the goal to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
  • After a Biola corner kick from the left side by Phelps, Havens took possession in the center of the box and passed it back to Phelps on the left side of the box. Phelps then dribbled to the top left corner of the box and sailed a shot over several defenders and into the right corner of the net to take a 2-0 lead.
  • In the 90th minute, Mendoza erased the shutout with a penalty kick goal into the right side of the goal cut the deficit to 2-1.
 
QUICK KICKS
  • Mendoza's goal was her first of the season and the third of her career.
  • Natalia Huntington led the game with four shots.
  • CSUSM ended the game with a 16-9 shot advantage while also leading in shots on goal at 9-6.
  • The Cougars also had a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.
  • This was CSUSM's first loss to Biola since 2017 and the first loss in San Marcos since 2014.
 
UP NEXT
CSUSM will play the sixth and final game of its homestand while wrapping up non-conference play against CCAA foe Cal State East Bay on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Prior to the game, CSUSM will honor seniors Claire Hernandez, Emma Hord, Allison Marcure, Hunter Morton, Savanna Prado and Hannah Ramos.
