CSUSM to Wrap Up Homestand Against Biola, East Bay

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (3-1-0) will wrap up a six-game homestand in addition to non-conference action this week as the Cougars host Biola (0-5-1) on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. before welcoming Cal State East Bay (3-0-1) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
 
Prior to Saturday's game, CSUSM will honor seniors Claire Hernandez, Emma Hord, Allison Marcure, Hunter Morton, Savanna Prado and Hannah Ramos.
 
LAST WEEK
  • CSUSM earned a 5-0 shutout against Westmont last Thursday.
  • CSUSM saw two goals from Brianna Delgado and a goal each from Gabby Marsh, Hannah Ramos and Lily Jensen.
  • CSUSM's five-goal margin of victory was its largest since defeating Bethesda 9-0 in 2014 and was the largest in the all-time series against the Warriors.

WEDNESDAY AGAINST BIOLA

  • The Eagles come into Wednesday's game winless in six matches this season.
  • Biola's lone non-loss was a 1-1 tie against Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 2.
  • Since then, the Eagles have lost four consecutive matches, all to CCAA opponents and by one goal each.
  • This past week, Biola fell 2-1 at Cal State LA on Wednesday before suffering a 3-2 loss to Chico State at home on Saturday.
  • Peyton Nelson has been the top Eagles player to this point with two goals and four points while taking a team-leading 15 shots.
  • CSUSM is 4-5-4 in the all-time series against Biola and owns a 2-1-3 record when playing at home.
  • The Cougars won the previous meeting in 2021 by a score of 2-1.
  • Biola's last win in the series came in 2017 in La Mirada.

SENIOR DAY AGAINST EAST BAY
  • Despite being CCAA foes, CSUSM and CSUEB will face each other in a non-conference matchup for the first time since 2008.
  • Before Saturday, the Pioneers will head to Concordia University Irvine to face the Golden Eagles on Thursday.
  • The Cougars are 6-1-1 in the all-time series against the Pioneers and have won five of the last six contests.
  • The Pioneers' lone win in the series came in 2015.
  • East Bay has yet to lose a game this season as it began the season with a scoreless draw against Simon Fraser before tallying three consecutive wins against Biola (1-0), Azusa Pacific (2-1) and Fresno Pacific (3-2).
  • All six of East Bay's goals for the season have been scored by six different players as Maya Farkas, Gabriella Rodil and Mika Sayfurahman each lead the team with three points.

THIS YEAR'S COUGARS
  • CSUSM's 2023 roster consists of 31 student-athletes with 17 returners and 14 newcomers.
  • The Cougars' return top scorers Claire HernandezDiana Mendoza and Jenna Frankina as each posted two goals in 2022.
  • Hernandez earned All-CCAA second-team honors last season while Jenna FrankinaNatalia Huntington and Allison Marcure were honorable mentions.
  • Because of last season's second-team honor, Hernandez was listed on the CCAA's 2023 Preseason Watchlist.
  • Returning in goal for her redshirt junior season is Allison Marcure, who posted 51 saves and nine shutouts while playing all 1,620 minutes last season.
  • CSUSM tied for sixth with Cal Poly Humboldt in the 2023 CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll.

  • Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his ninth year in charge of the women's program and 17th overall at CSUSM.
  • Renneisen's 2018 team made its second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance while also handing No. 1 UC San Diego its lone regular-season loss.
  • Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams.
  • As the women's head coach, Renneisen is 56-50-34 (.521) for his career with the Cougars.
