SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (1-0-0) began its 2023 season with a 2-0 shutout against The Master's University (2-1-1) on Thursday afternoon at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Off a CSUSM corner kick, Danielle Paulson took possession about 10 yards out from the goal made a quick pass to her sister Natalie Paulson, who put the ball into the bottom right corner of the net from six yards away to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
• The Cougars wrapped up the scoring in the 84th minute as Hannah Ramos connected on a corner kick that deflected off the Mustangs' keeper and went into the back of the net to give CSUSM a 2-0 lead.

 
QUICK KICKS

• CSUSM outshot TMU by a 12-4 margin and put seven shots on goal.
• The Cougars attempted nine corner kicks to the Mustangs' two.
• Natalia Huntington led the game with three shots – all on goal.
• The Cougars had the ball in Mustang territory for 66% of their possessions.
• It was the second-career goal for both Natalie Paulson and Ramos.
• CSUSM now owns the series lead against The Master's at 5-4-1.
• This was the Cougars first home win against the Mustangs since the second meeting in 2008.
