SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (20-25, 14-21 CCAA) capped off its 2023 season with a 14-5 loss to No. 13 Cal State Monterey Bay (33-15, 30-10 CCAA) on Saturday at the Otter Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Otters went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first with a solo shot by Nico Hartojo.
- CSUMB increased its lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the third with five runs on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, a bases-loaded walk, a run that scored on a throwing error, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.
- The Otters went out to a commanding 12-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth as it scored six more runs on four RBI singles, an RBI double and a wild pitch.
- The Cougars posted their first run in the top of the sixth with an RBI groundout by Luke Reece.
- A three-run homer by Emilio Luna cut the deficit to 12-4 in the top of the seventh.
- In his final game as a Cougar, Adam Lovato hit his first career home run with a solo shot on a full-count pitch to make it 12-5 in the top of the eighth.
- The Otters wrapped up the scoring in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI groundout by Hartojo and an RBI single up the middle by Cole Murchison.

- Otter starter Mitchell Torres (5-1) earned the win after he struck out two and allowed no runs on two hit-by-pitches and a hit in 5.0 innings.
- Cougar starter Thomas Babineau (1-2) took the loss after allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits, three walks and a hit-by-pitch in 2.1 innings.
- For the second consecutive series against the Otters in Seaside, the Cougars came away with a series split.
- Luna ended the season on a 15-game reached-base streak and a seven-game hitting streak.
