SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Taking an early deficit, the Cal State San Marcos baseball team (13-20, 7-16 CCAA) fell 7-4 against Cal Poly Pomona (23-14, 15-12 CCAA) to split the series on Sunday at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CPP jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a pair of two-run doubles by Marco Malerba and Jacob Lopez.
- CSUSM got a run back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double by Schnopp.
- The Broncos made it a 6-1 game in the top of the second with an RBI single by Nin Burns II and a double steal attempt that plated Johnny Pappas.
- A sacrifice fly to by Rivera allowed Reece to score from third to cut the deficit to 6-2.
- The Cougars moved within a couple runs at 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI groundout by Aoki and an RBI single by Luna.
- Held scoreless since scoring in the second inning, CPP made it a 7-4 game in the top of the ninth with a solo blast by Darius Price.
- CSUSM ended the game with three consecutive groundouts to third in the bottom of the ninth.

- Bronco starter Noel Soto (2-2) earned the win after going 6.0 innings with one strikeout while allowing four runs on nine hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.
- CPP's Eric Romo earned his third save with a flawless ninth inning.
- Cougar starter Josh Kim (3-4) took the loss after allowing six runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one in 1.2 innings.
- CSUSM's series split with CPP is the first in the all-time series dating back to 2016.
