TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team (19-10) fell 88-81 to No. 8/11 Cal State San Bernardino (27-3) in the championship game of the CCAA Tournament on Saturday night at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down 13-2 with 15:38 to go in the first half, CSUSM went on a 12-4 run to cut CSUSB's lead to 17-14 with 11:26 to go.
- Two good free throws each by Denker and Milton put the Cougars within a point at 19-18 with 10:09 to go.
- Denker went back to the line on the following possession and gave CSUSM its first lead of the night at 20-19 with 9:38 left in the first period.
- With the Cougars ahead 22-20, the Yotes went on a 10-0 run and took a 30-22 lead on Dontrell Shuler's 3-pointer with 5:31 to go in the half.
- A last-second 3-pointer by CSUSB's Brandon Knapper sent CSUSM to the locker room with a 43-32 deficit to the Coyotes.
- The Yotes shot 53.8% (14-of-26) in the first half while holding the Cougars to 31% (9-of-29).
- CSUSM was a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe in the first half as Denker made six of them and led the game with 15 points.
- The Cougars brought the Yotes' lead down to 52-47 on a 3-pointer by Sutton with 14:34 to play.
- A 3-pointer by Denker cut the deficit down to four at 54-50 with 11:56 remaining.
- Unfortunately for the Cougars, that was as close they came to the Yotes' lead as CSUSB began a run and went up by 14 at 76-62 with 2:46 remaining.
- CSUSM attempted a late run in the final minute but was only able to bring the deficit down to seven at 86-79 on a Milton 3-pointer.
FAST BREAKS
- For his performance in both of the Cougars' two CCAA Tournament games, sophomore Quinn Denker was named to the CCAA All-Tournament Team.
- CSUSM shot 39.7% (27-of-68) for the game while CSUSB came in at 50% (25-of-50).
- The Yotes went to the free throw line 43 times and made 30 of their attempts (69.8%). The Cougars were 18-of-19 (94.7%) from the charity stripe.
- CSUSM had a season-high 29 fouls go against it.
- The Cougars tied their season-low for steals with three.
- CSUSM scored 17 points off CSUSB's 15 turnovers.
- Milton's seven assists tied a career high while Sutton's six rebounds tied his career best.
- The Yotes won the battle of the boards at 40-34, but the Cougars had more offensive rebounds at 8-6.
