SAN MARCOS, Calif – The No. 5 Cal State San Marcos softball team (12-3, 9-1 CCAA) recorded a doubleheader sweep over visiting Chico State (7-7, 2-4 CCAA) on Friday afternoon by scores of 2-1 and 5-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars struck first in the bottom of the fourth on Gianna Lombardi's sacrifice fly to shallow right field to give CSUSM a 1-0 lead.
- Chico State evened the game at 1-all on Grace Gallagher's solo homer to left center in the fifth inning.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Albayati sent an RBI double off the right center wall to plate Donnelly who reached on a Wildcat error to put CSUSM up 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead on RBI singles by Ashley Rocha and Grace Stover in the third inning.
- CSUSM's offense exploded in the fifth, taking advantage of a Wildcat error, RBI singles by Lombardi and Gutierrez before Ellie Alvarez drove in the final two runs on a single down the right line to give the Cougars a 5-2 lead.
- Chico State attempted a rally in the sixth on Seva's RBI single to left center. With runners on second and third and no outs, Coyle entered the game to force two ground outs and a fly out to get out of the jam.

- CSUSM starter Jayline Sloss (5-2) collected the win after 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two.
- Coyle (2) picked up her second save of the season after tossing two shutout innings.
- Wildcat starter Katelyn Oldwin (2-2) took the loss after giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits and six walks in 6.0 innings of work.
- Gutierrez is the second Cougar this season to rack up three hits in a single game. Donnelly recorded the feat in the Cal State East Bay series opener on Feb. 24.
- The Cougars are tied at 11-all in the all-time series with the Wildcats and won the last six meetings against Chico.
