IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 11 Cal State San Marcos softball team (3-2) closed out the weekend at the Concordia University Irvine Kickoff Classic with a 2-0 win over Hawaii Pacific on Sunday afternoon at Great Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after Makenzie Guiliano laid down a one-out bunt single, stole second and scored on Gutierrez's single to left center.
- CSUSM got an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Pinch hitter Ellie Alvarez got her first collegiate hit on a swinging-bunt single. After re-entering at first, Sammie Olivo moved 60 feet on a Morgan Salgado sacrifice bunt and scored on a Waymire blooper that dropped behind first.

- CSUSM starter Jayline Sloss (2-1) pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing five hits and walking none while striking out five batters. Â Â
- HPU starter Taylor Thompson (0-4) also tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out five.
- The win moves CSUSM to 3-2 in the all-time series against HPU.
- The Cougars are 2-0 when playing the Sharks at the CUI Kickoff Classic. Â
- For the weekend, Waymire finished with a .533 batting average after collecting eight hits on 15 at bats that included a triple, three RBIs and five runs. Gutierrez registered a .375 clip, six hits, one double four RBIs and one run.
