SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The No. 18/RV Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (21-4, 18-3 CCAA) collected a 69-59 victory over Cal Poly Humboldt (9-16, 7-13 CCAA) on Thursday night in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars got on the board first with a steal and fast-break layup by Mina Tameilau to make it 2-0 at the 8:39 mark.
- A blocked 3-pointer by Vasquez at the buzzer kept the game at 13-all after the first quarter.
- After a Madison Parry 3-pointer to open the second quarter, the Cougars answered with a Dynnah Buckner 3-pointer from the corner less than 30 seconds later.
- The Cougars outscored the Jacks 23-18 behind 56.3% (9-of-16) shooting in the second quarter to take a 36-31 lead into the locker room.
- In the opening half, 11 3-pointers were made with CSUSM sinking six of them.
- A feed from Gallegos to Vasquez down low for a layup put the Cougars up 40-31 with 7:09 on the clock.
- The Jacks finally got their first bucket of the second half at the six minute mark on a layup by Parry.
- Tameilau answered with a 3-pointer to give CSUSM its first double-digit lead at 44-33 in the third quarter.
- Neither team shot well in the third quarter, with the Cougars coming out on top at 12-9.
- With 4:09 remaining, the Jacks cut the game to five points at 57-53 on a Zyan Smith layup.
- CSUSM went on a 7-2 run in the final minute to clinch the victory at 69-59.
- The Cougars found their rhythm in the final 10 minutes, shooting 42.9% (6-of-14) to Humboldt's 38.9% (7-of-18).
FAST BREAKS
- The Cougars shot 44.2% (23-of-52) from the field while Humboldt came in at 31.3% (21-of-67).
- Vasquez collected her fourth double-double in the last five games with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
- Dynnah Buckner narrowly missed out on her first double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds.
- The Cougars registered 17 assists on 23 made shots in the contest.
- CSUSM got 26 points in the paint while the Jacks tallied 18.
- The Cougars tallied a season-best five blocked shots with Vasquez recording three while Dynnah Buckner and Tameilau each contributing one.
- CSUSM outrebounded the Jacks, 45-37, but Humboldt registered 12 offensive boards to the Cougars' nine.
- The Cougars extended their win streak over the Jacks to five and now leads the all-time series 9-5.
- In their previous meeting this season, the Cougars walked away with a 70-68 victory in Arcata.
