SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team (17-9, 16-5 CCAA) collected an 80-75 win over Cal Poly Humboldt (12-15, 10-11 CCAA) on Thursday night at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down 12-6, the Cougars went on a 14-7 run to take a 20-19 lead on a pair of Milton made free throws at the 9:06 mark.
- The Cougars gave themselves a 10-point cushion on a 3-pointer by Collins with three minutes remaining.
- The Jacks responded with a 12-1 run before a McCain pull-up jumper with 14 seconds remaining gave CSUSM the lead into the break at 41-40.
- CSUSM opened the second half on a 9-0 run by a Denker 3-pointer in front of the Cougar bench at the 17:44 mark.
- After three missed shots and three offensive boards, Milton drove the baseline for a reverse layup to make it 50-42 with 15:50 remaining.
- A second-chance dunk by Mensah gave CSUSM back its double-digit lead at 52-42 with 14:41 on the clock.
- A 3-pointer by Kareen Clark cut CSUSM's lead to 70-64 with 3:23 on the clock.
- A 12-foot jumper on the baseline by Mensah made it 72-64 at 2:49.
- A pair of made free throws by Marlon Ruffin cut the gap to 72-66 with 2:40 on the clock.
- A loose ball grabbed by Clark who went in for the easy layup made it 72-68 with 1:38 remaining.
- A reverse layup by Mensah gave the Cougars a 74-68 lead with 1:13 on the clock.
- Humboldt's Bryce Mitchell made the front end of two free throws to make it 74-69.
- After a Jacks foul, Milton went to the line for a 1-and-1, sinking both for a 76-69 lead with 39 seconds on the clock.
- In the final minute, Milton got three attempts on a 1-and-1 situation where he missed the first but made the final four free throws to put CSUSM up 78-69.
- After Mitchell hit a pair of free throws, Ruffin connected on a 3-pointer in front of the Jacks' bench to make it 79-74 with 10.6 on the clock.
- Denker made both ends of his free throws to make it 80-74.

- The win was CSUSM's third consecutive against Humboldt and the Cougars' first home win against the Lumberjacks since Jan. 14, 2017.
- The Cougars now have an 8-5 lead in the all-time series.
- CSUSM ended the night shooting 43.5% (30-of-69) while Humboldt came in at 41.9% (26-of-62).
- The Cougars nabbed a season-high 42 rebounds while the Lumberjacks tallied 40.
- CSUSM had 16 assists for the night compared to Humboldt's nine.
- The Cougars scored 16 points off the Lumberjacks' 13 turnovers.
- Mensah's tallied his sixth double-double of the season.
- Collins' 17 points were a season high.
