Cougars Look to Extend Winning Streak on the Road

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Looking to extend its six-game winning streak, the Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team (12-7, 11-3 CCAA) will hit the road to face Cal State Monterey Bay (8-10, 6-7 CCAA) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. before facing San Francisco State (9-11, 5-9 CCAA) on Saturday at 3 p.m.

LAST WEEK
  • CSUSM scored a 70-44 win over Cal Poly Pomona last Thursday as the Cougars held the Broncos to just 24% (12-of-50) from field while allowing the fewest points in a game this season.
  • On Saturday, the Cougars hung 98 points on the then-No. 12/14 Cal State San Bernardino Yotes – their most points in regulation since Nov. 16, 2017 against West Coast Baptist – and walked away with their sixth consecutive win.
  • This was CSUSM's first home win against CSUSB since Nov. 30, 2016, and it was CSUSM's seventh win over a ranked opponent as an NCAA Division II member.

MILTON NAMED CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
  • Greg Milton III was named the CCAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week after dropping 30 on the Yotes – his second game of the season with 30 or more points and eighth with 20-plus points.
  • Milton is the team's first CCAA Player of the Week honoree since Khalil Fuller in 2019.

THURSDAY IN SEASIDE
  • CSUSM and CSUMB will meet for the second time this season on Thursday.
  • The Cougars previously defeated the Otters by a score of 72-60 on Dec. 10 at The Sports Center.

SAN FRANCISCO ON SATURDAY
  • CSUSM defeated SF State 70-51 at The Sports Center on Dec. 8.
  • The win knotted the all-time series at 6-6.

A NEW CAMPAIGN

  • The Cougars were voted to finish second in the 2022-23 CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
  • Nine Cougars return from the 2021-22 team, including All-CCAA first-teamer Jayce McCain and second-teamer Greg Milton III.
  • CSUSM is joined this year by five transfers, including sophomore Quinn Denker (West Valley College), redshirt junior Edwyn Collins (Riverside City College), graduate Zack Perlstein (Cal State East Bay), redshirt junior Bing Huang (Johnson County CC) and redshirt junior Chris Howard (Palomar College).
  • Rounding out the Cougars' roster of 15 is lone freshman Jermaine Rogers II (Ruben S. Ayala HS).


THE FOSTER FILE

  • Head coach B.J. Foster enters his sixth season in charge of the CSUSM Men's Basketball program after taking over the head position in 2016.
  • Under his leadership, the Cougars earned their first CCAA Tournament Championship in 2022 and made their first NCAA West Regional appearance.
  • Prior to becoming head coach of the Cougars, Foster was an assistant coach with the team from 2013 to 2016.
