No. 22 CSUSM Topples Seattle Pacific, 74-44

AZUSA, Calif. – The No. 22 Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (2-2) ended the weekend with its second consecutive win, recording a 74-44 win over Seattle Pacific (1-3) on Saturday night in Azusa Pacific's Cougar Shootout in the Felix Event Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gallegos got things started for CSUSM with a 3-pointer at 7:19 in the opening quarter.
  • CSUSM concluded the first 10 minutes of play with a 21-5 lead over SPU, shooting 9-of-15 (60.0%) from the field to SPU's 2-of-13 (15.4%).
  • The Cougars finished the first half strong with a 40-20 lead at the break.
  • Gallegos led all scorers in the first 20 minutes with 14 points.
  • Both teams put up 11 points in the third quarter as CSUSM took a 51-31 lead into the final quarter.
  • The Cougars put up their biggest quarter of the night in the final 10 minutes, outscoring SPU 23-13.
  • In the second half, Vasquez led all scorers with 13 points while pulling down the most rebounds with seven.
     
FAST BREAKS
  • CSUSM shot a season-high 52.8% (28-of-53) for the game while holding SPU to 32.8% (19-of-58).
  • The Cougars tallied six 3-pointers in the contest, shooting 40.0% from behind the arc. The Falcons only sunk one 3-pointer on 12 attempts.
  • San Marcos led wire-to-wire, never trailing in the game.  
  • Vasquez earned her first double-double of the season (22 pts, 12 reb.) and the 28th of her collegiate career.
  • CSUSM got 12 points off second-chance attempts to SPU's six.
  • The Cougars recorded points on four fast breaks while the Falcons tallied none.
  • Thirty-four of CSUSM's points came from inside the paint while SPU tallied 26.
  • The Cougars outrebounded the Falcons, 40-29.
  • CSUSM is 3-0 against SPU in the all-time series with this win being its largest margin of victory (30 points).
