POMONA, Calif. – The No. 22 Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (0-2) closed out its opening weekend on Saturday night, falling 58-44 to No. 12 Azusa Pacific (2-0) in the CCAA/PacWest Challenge at Kellogg Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams were slow out of the gate on scoring with APU holding a 10-9 lead after the first quarter.
- CSUSM took its largest lead of the first half at the 7:31 mark of the second quarter on a layup by Mastora.
- CSUSM shot a game-high 54.5% (6-of-11) in the second quarter while APU turned in a 31.3% (5-of-16) field-goal percentage.
- San Marcos took a 27-23 lead into the locker room after shooting 38.5% (10-of-26) from the field to APU's 34.5% (10-of-29).
- CSUSM went 5-of-6 (83.3%) from the charity stripe as Azusa Pacific made only three trips and sunk two in the first 20 minutes.
- San Marcos took its largest lead of the game at 34-27 on a Mina Tameilau second-chance 3-pointer.
- A pair of made free throws by Paige Uyehara gave APU a 41-40 lead at the end of the third quarter.
- CSUSM went 1-of-14 in the fourth quarter (7.1%) as APU took a double-digit lead in the final two minutes.
