SAN MARCOS – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (8-2-4, 5-0-3 CCAA) will look to clinch a spot in the CCAA Tournament this weekend as it heads to Cal State San Bernardino (7-5-3, 4-2-2 CCAA) on Friday at 3 p.m. before a 2 p.m. match at conference-leader Cal Poly Pomona (8-3-3, 6-1-1 CCAA) on Sunday.
 
LAST WEEK

• CSUSM went 1-0-1 last weekend in its final home games of the regular season with a 1-1 draw against Sonoma State on Friday and a 1-0 win over Cal Poly Humboldt on Sunday.
• Against the Seawolves, Natalie Paulson knotted the game with her third goal of the season in the 70th minute.
• In the 1-0 victory against the Lumberjacks, Paulson scored the game's lone shot in the second minute of action.

CCAA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

• For her performances against Sonoma State and Cal Poly Humboldt, Natalie Paulson earned her first CCAA Defensive Player of the Week honor on Tuesday.
• Paulson's goal that tied the game against Sonoma State came off a corner kick as she headed the ball into the left side of the net.
• Her game-winning goal in the second minute against Cal Poly Humboldt came on a pass into the box where she was able to tap the ball in from six yards out.
• Paulson contributed to CSUSM's defensive efforts by keeping the Seawolves and Lumberjacks to eight combined shots.
• Paulson is tied for the team lead in goals with four and leads the team with three game-winning goals.
• Paulson became the second Cougar to earn a CCAA Player of the Week award in as many weeks as teammate Nani Kia'aina earned Offensive Player of the Week honors last week.

 
COUGARS BY THE NUMBERS

• CSUSM is second in the CCAA standings with 18 points – one point behind first-place Cal Poly Pomona and four points ahead of Cal State LA and Cal State San Bernardino.
• Per the conference office, the Cougars can earn a berth in the CCAA Tournament with a win and two combined losses from the group of Stanislaus State, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal Poly Humboldt and Chico State.
• CSUSM's nine-game unbeaten streak is the third longest in program history.
• CSUSM has the ninth-best shutout percentage in the nation and leads the CCAA at .714 as the Cougars have tallied 10 shutouts this season.
• The Cougars have the 10th-best goals-against average in the nation and lead the conference at .429.

• The Cougars also lead the conference in assists per game (1.64), points per game (5.21), scoring offense (1.79), total assists (23), total goals (25) and total points (73).
• CSUSM is taking the second-most shots per game at 13.93 while putting the third-most shots on goal at 6.21.
• Allison Marcure ranks 12th nationally with eight shutouts this season and is one of three CCAA keepers to do so.
• Hannah Ramos leads the conference in assists her game at .42 while Nani Kia'aina ranks third at .38.
• The Cougars' 25 goals this season are the most since beginning NCAA Division II play (2015-present) and are tied for the eighth most in program history.
• CSUSM's 23 assists are the fourth most in team history.

FRIDAY AGAINST CSUSB

• This past weekend, the Yotes earned a pair of 2-1 victories at Cal State Monterey Bay and at San Francisco State.
• CSUSB is currently tied for third in the CCAA standings with Cal State LA as both have 14 points.
• The Yotes have the second-best scoring offense in the CCAA at 1.67 goals per game, but they have the eighth-best goals-against average at 1.2.
• CSUSB is tied with CSUSM for the most goals scored in the CCAA this season with 25.

• The Broncos went 1-1 last week with a 2-1 win at San Francisco State on Friday before taking a 1-0 loss at Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday.
• Before meeting up with CSUSM, CPP will host Cal State East Bay on Friday night.
• The Broncos are currently on top of the CCAA standings with 19 points.
• CPP is allowing the fourth-fewest goals per game in the CCAA at .786 while scoring the fifth-most goals at 1.43.

• CSUSM's 2023 roster consists of 31 student-athletes with 17 returners and 14 newcomers.
• The Cougars' return top scorers Claire Hernandez, Diana Mendoza and Jenna Frankina as each posted two goals in 2022.
• Hernandez earned All-CCAA second-team honors last season while Jenna Frankina, Natalia Huntington and Allison Marcure were honorable mentions.
• Because of last season's second-team honor, Hernandez was listed on the CCAA's 2023 Preseason Watchlist.
• Returning in goal for her redshirt junior season is Allison Marcure, who posted 51 saves and nine shutouts while playing all 1,620 minutes last season.

THE RENNEISEN FILE

• Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his ninth year in charge of the women's program and 17th overall at CSUSM.
• Renneisen's 2018 team made its second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance while also handing No. 1 UC San Diego its lone regular-season loss.
• Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams.
• As the women's head coach, Renneisen is 61-51-38 (.533) for his career with the Cougars.
