CSUSM to Begin Road Trip at CSUSB, CPP

SAN MARCOS – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (8-2-4, 5-0-3 CCAA) will look to clinch a spot in the CCAA Tournament this weekend as it heads to Cal State San Bernardino (7-5-3, 4-2-2 CCAA) on Friday at 3 p.m. before a 2 p.m. match at conference-leader Cal Poly Pomona (8-3-3, 6-1-1 CCAA) on Sunday.
 
LAST WEEK
  • CSUSM went 1-0-1 last weekend in its final home games of the regular season with a 1-1 draw against Sonoma State on Friday and a 1-0 win over Cal Poly Humboldt on Sunday.
  • Against the Seawolves, Natalie Paulson knotted the game with her third goal of the season in the 70th minute.
  • In the 1-0 victory against the Lumberjacks, Paulson scored the game's lone shot in the second minute of action.

CCAA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
  • For her performances against Sonoma State and Cal Poly Humboldt, Natalie Paulson earned her first CCAA Defensive Player of the Week honor on Tuesday.
  • Paulson's goal that tied the game against Sonoma State came off a corner kick as she headed the ball into the left side of the net.
  • Her game-winning goal in the second minute against Cal Poly Humboldt came on a pass into the box where she was able to tap the ball in from six yards out.
  • Paulson contributed to CSUSM's defensive efforts by keeping the Seawolves and Lumberjacks to eight combined shots.
  • Paulson is tied for the team lead in goals with four and leads the team with three game-winning goals.
  • Paulson became the second Cougar to earn a CCAA Player of the Week award in as many weeks as teammate Nani Kia'aina earned Offensive Player of the Week honors last week.
 
COUGARS BY THE NUMBERS
  • CSUSM is second in the CCAA standings with 18 points – one point behind first-place Cal Poly Pomona and four points ahead of Cal State LA and Cal State San Bernardino.
  • Per the conference office, the Cougars can earn a berth in the CCAA Tournament with a win and two combined losses from the group of Stanislaus State, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal Poly Humboldt and Chico State.
  • CSUSM's nine-game unbeaten streak is the third longest in program history.
  • CSUSM has the ninth-best shutout percentage in the nation and leads the CCAA at .714 as the Cougars have tallied 10 shutouts this season.

  • Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his ninth year in charge of the women's program and 17th overall at CSUSM.
