Cougars Secure 1-0 Win Over Humboldt in Regular-Season Home Finale

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Extending its unbeaten streak to nine games, the Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (8-2-4, 5-0-3 CCAA) earned a 1-0 win over Cal Poly Humboldt (10-3-2, 4-3-1 CCAA) in its final home game of the regular season on Sunday at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the second minute of play, Ramos played a ball on the left side of Lumberjack territory and made a pass to Hord at near midfield. Hord then made a long pass into the box to Paulson, who made a shot off the inside of her left foot into the left corner of the goal from six yards out to score the game's lone goal.
  • The Cougars ended the first half with a 4-3 shot lead while putting up the period's only two shots on goal. CSUSM also had the half's four corner kicks.
  • CSUSM allowed just one Humboldt shot on goal in the second half to earn the one-goal victory.
 
QUICK KICKS
  • Earning three more points, the second-place Cougars now have 18 points and are one behind leader Cal Poly Pomona and four points ahead of third-place Cal State LA and Cal State San Bernardino in the CCAA standings.
  • This was CSUSM's 10th shutout of the season while it was keeper Allison Marcure's eighth for the year.
  • Paulson's goal was her fourth of the season and second of the weekend.
  • Ramos earned her team-leading 11th point of the season while tying for the team lead in assists with five. Hord's assist was her first of the season.
  • CSUSM had possession for 53% of the game with 72% of its possessions occurring in Humboldt territory.
  • The Cougars' nine-game unbeaten streak is the third longest in program history.
  • CSUSM is now 3-1-4 in the all-time series against Humboldt after securing their first win against the Lumberjacks since 2018.

CSUSM will embark on a three-game road trip to round out the regular season and will first stop at Cal State San Bernardino (7-5-3, 4-2-2 CCAA) on Friday at 3 p.m.
