CSUSM Sweeps Cal Poly Humboldt

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (8-11, 6-5 CCAA) collected a CCAA sweep over visiting Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday night by scores of 25-23, 25-15 and 25-22 in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Humboldt broke away to take a 15-9 lead in the opening set on a Ryleeh Tuaolo kill. The Cougars rallied to even the set at 17-all on a Jennings kill. After three more tie scores, CSUSM took the lead and held it to collect a 25-23 win on a cross-court kill by Barr.
  • CSUSM dominated the second set, finishing with a .441 clip with Barr tallying a set-high six kills to record a 25-15 win.
  • In the third set, the Cougars found themselves down 5-0 before clawing back with their own five unanswered points. A Goff kill put CSUSM up 9-8 and the Cougars never looked back, holding the lead the rest of the way for a 25-22 win.

QUICK HITS
  • CSUSM is now tied for fifth place with Sonoma State in the CCAA standings. San Francisco State and Cal Poly Pomona are tied for third while Cal State East Bay dropped down to sixth place.
  • The Cougars extended their win streak over the Lumberjacks to eight with six of the wins coming from sweeps.
  • CSUSM's .323 attack percentage was the second highest of the season and the highest against a CCAA opponent. The Cougars tallied a .346 clip against Concordia University Irvine in a four-set win on Sept. 7.

The Cougars will embark on their final regular-season road trip next week, beginning with a stop at Stanislaus State on Friday, Oct. 27. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
