SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (8-11, 6-5 CCAA) recorded its second consecutive five-set victory on Friday night, taking down Sonoma State by scores of 25-16, 19-25, 16-25, 25-19 and 15-8 in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Behind a .318 attack percentage, the Cougars took an early 7-3 lead and never looked back to claim a 25-16 opening-set win.
- The Seawolves tallied a match-high 16 kills in the second set to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-19 win.
- The third set featured seven tie scores and three lead changes. Sonoma pulled away with a 10-1 run to cruise to a 25-16 win to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
- CSUSM found its rhythm again in the fourth set, posting a .316 clip with 15 kills and three errors. The match remained close until a 9-3 run gave CSUSM a 25-19 win to force a fifth set.
- In the fifth set, the Cougars broke a 5-all tie with a 6-1 run capped by a Bakken kill. CSUSM kept the momentum alive to clinch the victory at 15-8.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM is now in a three-way tie for fifth place in the CCAA standings alongside Sonoma State and Cal State East Bay. Fourth-place San Francisco State has a one-game lead at 7-4. Â
- Last Saturday, CSUSM defeated then-No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona in five sets in The Sports Center.
- With the win, the Cougars snapped a two-match losing streak against the Seawolves and now hold a 5-4 lead in the all-time series. CSUSM is 4-1 when playing Sonoma in The Sports Center.
