Pulvers Notches 250th Career Win in Three-Goal Shutout of CSUEB

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (3-4-1, 1-0-0 CCAA) earned head coach Ron Pulvers his 250th career victory as the Cougars began CCAA action with a 3-0 win over Cal State East Bay (2-4-2, 0-1-0 CCAA) on Friday at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSM began the scoring in the 12th minute. Battling for possession inside the box on the right side, Patterson finally earned it and took a shot into the left corner of the net to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
  • Patterson earned his second goal of the day in the 19th minute and put CSUSM on top at 2-0. A quick pass from Brunetto at the top of the box found Patterson in the center of the box, who chipped it straight into the goal from right in front of the Pioneer keeper.
  • CSUSM ended the half with a 5-3 shot lead.
  • The Cougars concluded the scoring in the 68th minute. Off a throw-in from Westwood on the right side, Marsh connected on a shot from eight yards out on the right side and found the left side of the goal to give CSUSM a commanding 3-0 lead.
 
QUICK KICKS
  • CSUSM ended the game with three times as many shots as CSUEB at 15-5 while putting nine on goal compared to the Pioneers' two.
  • East Bay had a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks, taking three in the second half.
  • Patterson's goals were his first two of the season and is now tied for the team lead.
  • Westwood's assist was his third of the year while Brunetto's assist gave him his team-leading fifth point.
  • Patterson led the game with four shots and three shots on goal.
  • Eight different Cougars had at least one shot.
  • CSUSM controlled possession for 52% of the game while 56% of its possession were in CSUEB territory.
  • The Cougars extended their winning streak against the Pioneers to four games and now have a 4-2-1 lead in the all-time series.
  • CSUSM's three goals were the most in the all-time series against CSUEB, and it was the largest margin of victory by either team.
  • The Cougars last began CCAA play with a victory in 2018 in a 1-0 win over the Pioneers.

CSUSM will close out the first weekend of CCAA play by welcoming Stanislaus State (4-1-3, 1-0-0 CCAA) to The Cage on Sunday at 2 p.m.
