Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

CSUSM Caps Perfect Weekend with 1-0 Victory

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (4-4-1, 2-0-0 CCAA) rounded out the opening weekend of CCAA action with another shutout, defeating Stanislaus State (4-2-3, 1-1-0 CCAA) by a score of 1-0 on Sunday at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Scoreless after 45 minutes, CSUSM was outshooting Stan State 7-4 while putting five shots on goal.
  • Receiving a free kick from outside of the box, Aminloo made a pass to his right from six yards out to a sliding Marsh, who tapped the ball into the center of the goal and gave CSUSM a 1-0 lead.
  • The Cougars held firm after the go-ahead goal by Marsh, limiting the Warriors to just two shots in the second half while putting up seven of their own.
 
QUICK KICKS
  • CSUSM heavily outshot Staninslaus for the game at 14-6 while also taking a 5-3 advantage on corners.
  • John Williamson had a game-high three shots while putting two on goal.
  • Marsh's goal was his second of the year and tied for the team lead while Aminloo's assist was his first as a Cougar.
  • Jesus Mentado's four saves led to his third shutout of the season.
  • The Cougars are now 4-1-2 in the all-time series against the Warriors and are still undefeated at home with a 3-0-1 record.
  • CSUSM last started CCAA play with two wins back in 2018.
  • All four Cougar wins have occurred at home this season.
  • The Cougars were the lone CCAA team to win both of its games this weekend and now sit first in the CCAA standings with six points.
   
UP NEXT
CSUSM will have a tough test on Friday when it travels to No. 7 Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-0-2, 1-0-1 CCAA) to face the Toros at 7 p.m. in Carson.
