ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (2-7, 1-1 CCAA) dominated in the third set to record a CCAA sweep over Cal Poly Humboldt (1-4, 0-2 CCAA), the first conference win of 2022, on Saturday night in Lumberjack Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the opening set, a kill and ace by Turner followed by a Thomas solo block put CSUSM up 14-12 and prompted the Jacks to call a timeout. The Cougars came out of the timeout by scoring 10 unanswered points that included five Barr kills to take a 24-12 lead. CSUSM clinched the set at 25-16 on a kill by Kylie Bartel.
- The Cougars led wire-to-wire in the second set. The Jacks kept the set close before a 6-0 run capped by a Wentzel kill gave CSUSM the 25-17 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
- CSUSM entered the third set on fire, taking a 10-2 lead behind a .714 attack percentage. The Cougars took their largest lead in a set of the season at 15-2 before recording a 25-7 win and clinching the team's first sweep of 2022.

- In a set to 25, Humboldt's seven points were the fewest allowed by CSUSM in the NCAA Division II era.
- During the NAIA era (2011-14), the Cougars held their opponents to seven points on two occasions (University of Redlands, UC Merced) and only six points on three different occasions (UC Merced, Indiana Northwest and Johnson & Wales).
- In 2021, the Cougars held the Jacks to just nine points in the opening set in San Marcos. The first time CSUSM held a team to single digits in the NCAA Division II era was in the third set against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sept. 17, 2016 where the Cougars eventually won the five-set match.
- With the win, CSUSM improves to 6-2 in the all-time series against Humboldt.
- This marks the Cougars' fifth sweep over the Jacks in school history.
