SEASIDE, Calif. – The top-seeded Cal State San Marcos softball team fell 8-6 to fifth-seeded Cal State Monterey Bay in the CCAA Tournament's second elimination game on Saturday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Otters took a 2-0 lead in the first frame on two hits and two CSUSM errors.
- CSUMB added to its lead in the second inning on Abby Alcayaga's solo shot over the right field wall to make it 3-0.
- The Otters made it a 4-0 ballgame in the top of the third on Oli Perez's RBI double down the left line.
- The Cougars cut their deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the frame on a 2-RBI single by Andelin and a sacrifice fly Salgado.
- CSUMB responded with a three-run homer by Ally Alcayaga to raise its lead to 7-3 in the fourth.
- Andelin led off the fifth with a double up the middle and scored on back-to-back groundouts to make it 7-4.
- After the Otters scored in the top of the sixth on a groundout, the Cougars responded with one of their own after Waymire drew a walk, advanced on a fielder's choice error and fly out to right before scoring on Makenzie Guiliano's groundout to make it 8-5.
- Andelin crushed a solo home run over the right field wall in the bottom of the seventh to close it to 8-6.
- CSUMB reliever Jensen Main collected the save after recording two groundouts and a strikeout to end the game.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM starting pitcher Zoe Ballen (6-4) took the loss after going 2.1 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk.
- CSUMB starter Cassie Gasper (7-7) collected the win after 6.0 innings of action, relinquishing six runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks.
- Andelin registered her second home run of the season and fifth of her CSUSM career.

The Cougars will now wait for the NCAA Division II Selection Show Monday morning at 7 a.m. to find out the West Regional schedule. As the No. 1 seed in the previous three regional polls, CSUSM is favored to be one of the two West Regional hosts.
