SEASIDE, Calif. – The top-seeded Cal State San Marcos softball team dropped a 4-0 decision to eighth-seeded Northwest Nazarene on Thursday afternoon in the opening game of the NCAA Division II West Regional at CSUSM Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Nighthawks took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Maia McNicoll's RBI double down the left line, scoring Mulligan who led off the inning on a single to left and advanced on two passed balls.
• NNU pushed three runs across in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. The Nighthawks' first run of the inning came on a pair of CSUSM errors before McNicoll's 2-RBI single down the left line.

 
QUICK HITS

• NNU starting pitcher Sidney Booth (18-11) collected the win after tossing seven shutout innings, relinquishing four hits and three walks while racking up nine strikeouts.
• CSUSM starting pitcher Jayline Sloss (14-3) picked up the loss after 4.1 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks while recording four strikeouts.
• This was the inaugural meeting between these two teams.
• Andelin's single in the sixth inning extended her hitting streak to 13 games.
