SEASIDE, Calif. – The top-seeded Cal State San Marcos softball team recorded a 10-4 victory over fifth-seeded and host Cal State Monterey Bay to open CCAA Tournament play late Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Lombardi RBI bouncing single up the middle followed by Steiner's grand slam over the center field wall.
- The Otters put up a pair of runs in the top of the second inning on RBI singles by Jessilyn Barrow and Ashley Honorio to make it 5-2.
- In the bottom of the frame, Guiliano led off the inning with a walk before stealing second, moving to third on a groundout and eventually scoring on Andelin's sacrifice fly to make it 6-2.
- The Cougars raised their lead to 7-2 as Steiner knocked in her fifth RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly that plated Salgado who led off the third inning with a single.
- An RBI groundout by Andelin in the fourth made it 8-2 CSUSM.
- The Otters pushed two more runs across on two hits and two CSUSM errors in top of the sixth to make it 10-4.
QUICK HITS
- Starting pitcher Jayline Sloss (14-2) picked up the win after going 5.0 innings in the circle, giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out four batters.
- Savannah Coyle moved from designated player to relief pitcher for the final two innings, registering one strikeout while relinquishing two unearned runs on one hit.
- CSUMB starter Jensen Main (23-9) took the loss after just 4.0 innings of work, allowing eight runs (six earned) on four hits and two walks.
- Bianca Gutierrez saw her second team-leading 10-game hitting streak come to an end.
- Steiner's grand slam was her second of the season with her first coming in a walk-off, mercy-ruled 11-1 victory over San Francisco State on March 26.
- Steiner becomes the second Cougar to record five or more RBIs in a single game as Paige Donnelly made the feat twice this season.
