INDIANAPOLIS – The Cal State San Marcos women's track & field team will have some representation at the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships as
Ana Mercado and
Devin Yarbrough were selected to compete at the meet taking place May 26-28 at Grand Valley State Track and Field Stadium in Allendale, Michigan.
Â
Mercado will be competing in the 800-meter run after she posted a school-record time of 2:09.68 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in mid-April. Her time ranks as the 25th fastest in Division II and is the fastest in the CCAA this season. Mercado is coming off an All-CCAA second team performance at the CCAA Championships where she silvered in the 800. Prelims for the 24 selected entrants in the 800 will begin on Friday, May 27 at 3:15 p.m. (PDT) with the final being set for Saturday, May 28 at 12:55 p.m. (PDT)
Â
Yarbrough will be CSUSM's representative in the long jump after coming through with a mark of 6.10 meters at the APU Last Chance this past Saturday. Breaking her own school record by .24, Yarbrough's mark vaulted her into the national meet with the 12th-best distance in Division II and the best in the CCAA this season. She'll be going up against 19 other competitors in the final on Thursday, May 26 at 2:30 p.m. (PDT).
Â
Mercado and Yarbrough will be the third and fourth Cougars in program history to compete at the NCAA Championships. Jax Heckers was the last to do so in 2019 as she competed in the 10K while Natalie Rodriguez was the first to do so in 2018 in the 5K. This will be the first time CSUSM has sent multiple entrants to the NCAA Championships in a single season.
