SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (13-30, 9-24 CCAA) dropped its series opener to San Francisco State (17-24, 12-21 CCAA) by a score of 11-7 on Friday at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- SF State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. With runners on the corners, Gavin Mancha stole second while AJ Schrader took home on the catcher's throw to second.
- With one out and a runner on second in the bottom of the second, Emilio Luna hit an RBI double to center and knotted the game at 1-1.
- The Gators went up 3-1 in the top of the third after Kody Gardner plated a run on an RBI single, but a CSUSM throwing error allowed another run to score and put SF State up 3-1.
- CSUSM tied it at 3-3 in the bottom of the third. After a walk loaded the bases, Van Linge put a two-run single up the middle to score Luke Reece and MacDonald.
- With a runner on second and one out in the top of the fourth, Luke O'Brien hit an RBI single to left and plated Mancha for the go-ahead run.
- The Cougars once again matched the Gators with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth as Jacob Savoy scored on an error by the SF State third baseman and tied the game at 4-4.
- SF State put up a three spot in the top of the fifth as Ethan Remmers hit an RBI double down the left field line before a two-run single through the right side by Mancha gave the Gators a 7-4 lead.
- The Gators went up 9-4Â in the top of the sixth on a two-out RBI double to left center by Gardner, who proceeded to score on a fielding error on the next play.
- A two-run homer to right by MacDonald cut CSUSM's deficit to 9-6 in the bottom of the sixth.
- SF State scored its final two runs in the top of the eighth with a one-out RBI single to center by Schrader before scoring on an RBI single through the right side by Nicholas Hughes.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Van Linge scored from third as the Cougars grounded into a double play. A fly out to center immediately after ended the game.

- SF State starter Jordyn Eglite (4-5) earned the win after striking out six and allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits, three walks and one hit batter in 5.0 innings.
- CSUSM starter Garrett Apker (4-3) took the loss after striking out five and allowing seven runs (six earned) on three hits, six walks and one hit batter in 4.1 innings.
- Gator reliever Justice Naraghi (S, 3) earned the three-inning save as he allowed just one run on one hit and two walks.
- Apker's five strikeouts put his career total at 166. He's now just three shy of breaking Johnny Holtman's CSUSM record of 168.
- Reece extended his team-best hitting streak to 15 games while MacDonald improved his reached-base streak to 14 games.
