POMONA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (13-26, 9-20 CCAA) fell 9-2 in its series opener at Cal Poly Pomona (23-15, 18-10 CCAA) on Friday night at Scolinos Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Broncos took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. With the bases loaded, AJ Nimeh delivered a sacrifice fly to right field and scored Ryon Knowles from third. Casey Slattery then hit an RBI single through the right side to plate Nick Lugo for CPP's second run.
- After Teisher singled to lead off the top of the sixth and advanced to second on a groundout, MacDonald hit a two-out RBI single through the right side to score Teisher and cut deficit to 2-1.
- CPP responded with a bases-loaded walk by Jacob Lopez and a sacrifice fly to left by Johnny Pappas to go up 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth.
- With two on and two outs in the top of the seventh, Teisher came through with an RBI single down the right field line to score Richert from second and move within a couple of runs at 4-2.
- The Broncos put a five spot on the board in the bottom of the seventh as they scored on two RBI singles, a wild pitch, a CSUSM throwing error and another sac fly to go up 9-2.

- CPP starter Will Rudy (6-1) earned the win after allowing just one run on seven hits and a walk while striking out five in 6.0 innings.
- CSUSM starter Garrett Apker (4-2) took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits, five walks and a hit-by-pitch while striking out three in 5.1 innings.
- Luke Reece increased his team-best hitting streak to 13 games with a single to left in the fourth inning.
- MacDonald upped his reached-base streak to 10 games and became the fourth Cougar with a double-digit reached-base streak this season.
- With 11 hits on Friday, CSUSM has tallied 10-plus hits in five consecutive games and in eight of the last nine contests.
