HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (12-22, 8-16 CCAA) took a 5-2 loss in the series finale at Cal State East Bay (17-17, 10-14 CCAA) on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single to left by Francisco Pedraza that scored Essex Brown Jr. from second.
- East Bay extended its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning on a pair of RBI singles by Luke Novitske and Matthew Mandeville.
- The Cougars cut into the Pioneers lead in the top of the fourth inning at 3-2. After Stanford doubled and scored on an infield error, Niko Diaz scored from third on a sacrifice bunt by Chadwick.
- CSUEB made it 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth as Brown scored on an RBI groundout by Manny Garcia.
- An RBI single by Brown scored Samuel Esparza in the bottom of the sixth to wrap up the scoring for East Bay at 5-2.
- The Cougars tried to rally with two outs in the top of the ninth on a walk by Kevin Van Linge and a single to right by Reece, but a fly out to center ended the game.

QUICK HITS
- East Bay reliever Anthony Perez (1-2) earned the win after tossing five scoreless innings of relief while allowing three hits and two walks.
- CSUSM starter Pat MacDonald Jr. (1-4) took the loss after giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out two.
- Luke Reece took the team lead for multiple hits with 15 for the year. He also extended his hitting streak to eight games – the longest active streak on the team.
