SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team (19-2, 10-1 CCAA) won its third consecutive CCAA series after a 12-3, 5-10 doubleheader split on Sunday at Cal State San Bernardino (7-13, 3-10 CCAA). The Cougars swept the Coyotes in yesterday's twinbill by scores of 4-1 and 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gutierrez and Andelin led of the game with back-to-back singles and advanced 60 feet on Makenzie Guiliano's sac bunt. The duo later scored on Donnelly's 2-RBI single that flew past the third baseman to give CSUSM a 2-0 lead.
- The Cougars tripled their lead in the second inning on a pair of 2-RBI doubles by Gutierrez and Donnelly, making it 6-0 CSUSM.
- In the third, CSUSM got another run on a fielder's choice by Jackie Ramirez that plated Salgado, who reached on a bunt single.
- The Cougars made it 8-0 in the top of the fourth on a wild pitch that enabled Gutierrez to come home after she led off the inning with a single and moved over two bases on Andelin's double.
- Back-to-back doubles by Tereise Tosi and Veronica Garza pushed a run across for the Coyotes, preventing the mercy rule from going into effect after five innings to make it 8-1.
- Steiner knocked an RBI single up the middle, and Madison Waymire drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Coyle hit a two-out, two-run home run to center field to raise CSUSM's lead to 12-1.

- Cougar starter Savannah Coyle (8-1) earned the win after going 6.0 innings, giving up just one run on four hits and striking out seven without a single walk.
- CSUSB starter Samantha Vargas went just 1.1 innings, relinquishing three earned runs on five hits while striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Coyotes scored first for the first time in the series, taking advantage of a CSUSM error in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
- CSUSB's Aguardo knocked in an RBI single to give the Coyotes a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
- Ariana Chavarria's two-run homer in the third inning extended CSUSB's lead to 4-0.
- The Cougars didn't get their first hit until the fourth inning when Andelin doubled to left field and stole third before Donnelly laced a single off the CSUSB's third baseman's glove to bring Andelin home.
- The Coyotes added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth after racking up two hits and capitalizing on a Cougar error.
- Donnelly's grand slam to center field in the top of the sixth inning cut CSUSB's lead to 7-5.
- CSUSB responded with three more runs in the bottom of the frame highlighted by Tosi's two-run homer to center field to make it 10-5.
