SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team (13-1) swept its second consecutive series on Wednesday with a 10-2 mercy-rule victory over Simon Fraser (3-5) at CSUSM Softball Field. The Cougars extended their win streak to 12 games, the longest since moving to NCAA Division II in 2016.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- SFU took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Chelsea Hotner in the top of the first inning.
- Bianca Gutierrez led off in the bottom of the frame with one up the middle and scored on Donnelly's double off the left center wall to even the game at 1-1.
- In the second inning, the Cougars' bats once again came alive against SFU. Morgan Salgado led off with single and scored on Gianna Lombardi's triple in the right corner. Arredondo followed with an RBI single but was out on Makenzie Guiliano's fielder's choice. After Gutierrez drew a walk, both runners moved up 60 feet with stolen bases to get in scoring position. Donnelly singled up the left field line to score Guiliano, and Nikki Andelin's sacrifice fly to right plated Guiliano to make it 6-1.
- After a scoreless third inning, CSUSM extended its lead to 9-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Ponce crushed a 2-RBI triple to right field, and Madison Waymire's single through the right side brought Ponce home.
- Simon Fraser knocked in one run on three hits, scoring on Chelsea Hotner's two-out single to right to force the bottom of the frame.
- A two-out RBI-single through the right side by Kayla Mack ended the game at 10-2 due to the eight-run mercy rule. Â

- CSUSM starter Savannah Coyle (5-1) earned the win after going 5.0 innings, racking up six strikeouts and allowing only two runs on four hits and one walk.
- SFU's starter Julia Hansen (0-1) took the loss after one inning in the circle, giving up three runs on four hits.
- Salgado has a hit streak of six games while Lombardi and Gutierrez each have hit safely in five consecutive games.
