SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team (3-5, 3-1 CCAA) earned a 70-51 victory over San Francisco State (4-5, 0-3 CCAA) in its CCAA home opener on Thursday night at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Gators took an 11-7 lead at the 13:10 mark, the Cougars went on an 8-0 run capped by a Donovan Watkins 3-pointer at the 8:40 mark to make it 15-11.
- The Gators closed in once again on a Parsa Hadjighasemi 3-pointer to make it 17-16 at the 6:35 mark.
- CSUSM closed out the first half on a 10-0 run to take a 30-23 lead into the locker room.
- The first half featured seven lead changes with CSUSM on top for 11:23 and the Gators for 7:10.
- CSUSM had a slight edge in field goal percentage in the opening half, shooting 40.7% (11-of-27) to SF State's 38.1% (8-of-21). The Cougars went 5-of-9 (55.6%) from behind the 3-point line while the Gators were held to 2-of-7 (28.6%).
- McCain led all scorers in the first half with nine points.
- CSUSM maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest after a Milton 3-pointer put the Cougars up 38-27 with 17:31 to play.
- The Cougars took an 18-point lead at 49-31 following another 3-pointer by Milton with 13:23 to go.
- An 11-3 run by Gators cut the deficit to 10 at 52-42, but it was as close as they came to the Cougars' lead.
- With just over a minute remaining, CSUSM took its largest lead of the game on a second-chance layup by Sutton to give the Cougars a 19-point lead at 67-48.
- Jack Schultz made the final bucket of the game with CSUSM's 12th 3-pointer of the night to lead 70-51 with 25 seconds left.
- The Cougars shot 70% (7-of-10) from beyond the arc in the second half and came in at 57.1% (16-of-28) from the field.
FAST BREAKS
- The Cougars' 19-point margin of victory was its largest of the season as the Gators were held to their lowest point total of the season.
- CSUSM ended the game shooting 49.1% (27-of-55) from the field while SF State came in at 33.3% (17-of-51).
- The Cougars' 63.2% (12-of-19) effort from beyond the arc was the third best in program history.
- CSUSM tallied a season-high 21 assists to SF State's seven.
- The Cougars won the battle of the boards with a season 34 to the Gators' 32.
- Milton's double-double was his first as a Cougar as he played a game-high 38 minutes and posted a career-high 10 rebounds.
- This was Milton's fourth game of the season with 20-plus points, and he's scored double figures in all eight games this season.
- Perlstein's seven assists were the most by a Cougar this season and set a career high.
- Mensah's five steals and two assists were both career highs.
- CSUSM improved its winning streak against SF State to four games and is now 6-6 in the all-time series.
