SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Coming off two CCAA road wins this past weekend, the Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (5-4-2, 3-1-0 CCAA) will host Cal State LA (5-2-3, 2-0-2 CCAA) in The Cage on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. before concluding the weekend at Cal Poly Pomona (3-5-2, 2-1-1 CCAA) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
 
LAST WEEK

• The Cougars began the weekend with a 1-0 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills with a 51st-minute goal by Natalie Paulson on a corner kick by Sierra Moore.
• CSUSM then defeated Cal State Monterey Bay with two unanswered second-half goals by Jenna Frankina and Claire Hernandez to take a 2-1 victory.
• The wins put CSUSM into a first-place tie with Sonoma State in the CCAA standings at nine points.
• CSUSM has already matched its 2021 point total in only four games.

COUGARS BY THE NUMBERS

• Allison Marcure's goals-against average of .818 ranks third in the CCAA and 58th nationally.
• Marcure's five shutouts for the season rank second in the conference and 16th nationally.
• With two assists each, Moore and Chloe King rank seventh in the CCAA.
• Frankina, Hernandez and Moore each lead the team with four points while Natalia Huntington has been the Cougars' top shot taker with 23.

IN THE CAGE AGAINST THE GOLDEN EAGLES

• LA went 1-0-1 this past weekend with a 1-1 tie at Cal Poly Humboldt on Friday before earning a 1-0 win at Chico State on Sunday.
• The Golden Eagles sit third in the CCAA standings with eight points.
• LA is currently ranked ninth in the United Soccer Coaches West Region Poll.
• With a .600 shutout percentage, LA ranks 19th nationally and is tied for the CCAA lead.
• Areli Reyes ranks sixth in the nation for shutouts (6) and has the 30th-best goals-against average (.588) while posting the third-best save percentage in the league (.821).
• LA has yet to score more than two goals in a game this season and is averaging .90 goals per game while holding opponents to .60.
• Thaiz Hernandez, Shelby Melin and Erin Schrock each lead the Golden Eagles with two goals while Melin leads the team in shots at 18.

SUNDAY IN POMONA

• Prior to facing the Cougars, the Broncos will head to Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday.
• Pomona tied No. 16 Chico State at 0-0 on Friday before falling 2-0 at Cal Poly Humboldt on Sunday.
• CPP is currently in a three-way tie for fourth in the CCAA standings with seven points.
• The Broncos were picked to finish second in the 2022 CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
• Jessica Llamas and Liberty Ortiz each lead CPP with two goals this season while Alyssa Larkin has been the Broncos' top shot taker with 21.
• Goalkeeper Audrey Brown has the fourth-best goals-against average in the CCAA at .947 and ranks eighth in the league with a .775 save percentage.
• CSUSM is 2-4-3 in the all-time series against CPP and is 0-0-3 when playing in Pomona.

2022 CSUSM WOMEN'S SOCCER NOTES

• CSUSM will begin its 2022 season with a very young roster as it welcomes 13 incoming freshmen to its roster of 28.
• The Cougars return 12 from the 2021 squad, including top-goal scorers Chloe King, Sierra Moore and Hunter Morton and starting keeper Allison Marcure.
• Marcure ended the 2021 season with the 25th-best save percentage in Division II at .855 and ranked third in the CCAA.
• Graduate students Taylor Moorehead and Julia Atlee join CSUSM as transfers from San Diego State and Hartford, respectively.
• In 2021, the Cougars finished the season at .500 with an overall record of 6-6-3.
• CSUSM finished 10th in the CCAA standings with a 2-6-3 record.
• The Cougars were picked to finish 10th in the 2022 CCAA Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll.
• Starting this season, the NCAA has eliminated overtime periods from men's and women's soccer regular-season games. All games tied after 90 minutes will end in a draw.

THE RENNEISEN FILE

• Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his ninth year in charge of the women's program and 17th overall at CSUSM.
• Renneisen's 2018 team made its second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance in 2018 while also handing No. 1 UC San Diego its lone regular-season loss.
• Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams.
• As the women's head coach, Renneisen is 52-48-30 (.515) for his career with the Cougars.
