ATHERTON, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team (4-1-5, 2-1-2 CCAA) began its two-game road trip with a 2-0 shutout victory against Menlo (3-6-1, 0-5-0 CCAA) on Thursday afternoon at Wunderlich Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a foul by the Oaks in the right edge of the box, the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick. Karli Sikes took the kick and slotted it into the bottom right corner to put CSUSM up 1-0 in the 12th minute.
- CSUSM led the first half in shots (6-4), shots on goal (4-1) and corner kicks (5-3).
- Late in the second half, the Cougars put the game away with a free kick goal from the edge of the box by Luca Puccio as she hit the crossbar with shot before the ball crossed the goal line to make it a 2-0 game in the 85th minute.

QUICK KICKS
- CSUSM ended the game with the edge in shots (9-6), shots on goal (7-1), corner kicks (8-3) and possession (57%-43%).
- This was just the second meeting in the all-time series between the Cougars and Oaks and the first since 2006.
- Sikes and Puccio each tallied their first career goals.
- CSUSM keeper Keira Patterson notched her third clean sheet of the year, and the Cougars now have five as a team.
- CSUSM now has eight points in CCAA play.
