SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team picked up three points with a 2-1 victory over Cal Poly Humboldt on Sunday at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- On a free kick from Brunetto from the left side, Reader headed the ball to Acosta, who headed it off the inside of the left post and into the net for the game's first goal in the 50th minute.
- In the 59th minute, a cross by Westwood from the top right corner of the box found the head of Marsh, who put the ball into the right side of the goal from six yards out and gave CSUSM a 2-0 lead.
- After a CSUSM goal kick bounced around at midfield, Tucker put a long pass over the middle and found Castenada at the top of the box. With only the keeper to beat, Castenada put a shot around the keeper and into the right side of the net from the penalty kick marker and cut Humboldt's deficit to 2-1 in the 71st minute.
- Despite being outshot 8-4 in the second half, the Cougars kept the Lumberjack at bay for the final 19 minutes and came away with the win.

- Marsh's goal was his team-leading third of the season while Acosta's was his second.
- Westwood tallied his team-best fifth assist of the year while Reader posted his second.
- Brunetto's assist improved his team-leading point total to seven.
- Jesus Angulo led CSUSM with two shots, both of which were on goal.
- Humboldt led the way in shots at 9-6, but CSUSM had the advantage for corner kicks at 6-3.
- The Cougars had possession for 61% of the game.
- This was CSUSM's second consecutive win playing Humboldt in San Marcos.
- The Cougars are now 4-2-1 in the all-time series and are 3-1 at home.
- With the win, CSUSM is now sixth in the CCAA standings with 11 points and three games to go.
