CSUSM Posts First Win in 1-0 Defeat of CSUSB

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team posted their first win of the year with a 1-0 defeat of Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 37th minute, Thaete made a long pass over the middle from midfield. On one bounce from Thaete, Monroe took a shot that bounced over the keeper's head into the right side of the goal to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
  • The Coyotes tried to make a game of it in the second half by outshooting the Cougars 10-5 with five shots on goal, but CSUSM keeper Jesus Mentado was able to keep the CSUSB advances at bay.

  • CSUSM improves to 1-5-0 on the year while CSUSB drops to 2-2-1.
  • The win was the Cougars' first over the Coyotes since 2008 at home.
  • CSUSM is now 2-6 in the all-time series and 2-3 at home.
