Cougars Set for Final Non-Conference Game Against Coyotes

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women’s soccer team will return to action for the first time in two weeks as it hosts CCAA foe Cal State San Bernardino in a non-conference game on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at The Cage.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Cougars last scheduled game against The Master’s last week was cancelled.
  • Prior to that, CSUSM moved to 3-0-0 with a 2-1 come-from-behind win against Biola.
  • Chloe King notched her team-leading second goal for the Cougars while Megan Tomasetti scored her first career goal.

NON-CONFERENCE GAME AGAINST CSUSB

  • The Cougars and Coyotes will tangle for the first time this season on Saturday.
  • This will be the first time CSUSM and CSUSB have played a non-conference game against each other since 2008.
  • The Cougars have a 3-0-4 record against the Coyotes in the all-time series with three consecutive wins.
  • At home, CSUSM is 2-0-2 in the series.
  • Out of the seven meetings in the all-time series, five of them have ended in overtime.
  • The Coyotes are 2-3 on the year and lost their last two games against Azusa Pacific and St. Edward’s.
  • Both of CSUSB’s win have come on the road with victories at Cal State LA and Concordia University Irvine.
  • Vidalia Abarca is the Coyotes’ offensive leader with two goals, one assist, five points, 15 shots and eight shots on goal.
  • Coyote keeper Carly Luna ranks ninth nationally for total saves at 38 and 16th for saves per game at 7.60.

COUGARS BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Cougars are currently one of 15 schools in Division II with a perfect win-loss-tie percentage.
  • CSUSM keeper Allison Marcure leads the CCAA and ranks 24th nationally with a .909 save percentage. She also leads the conference and ranks 19th nationally with a .324 goals against average.
  • At .67 assists per game, Sierra Moore leads the conference and ranks 20th nationally.
  • The Cougars are averaging 14 shots per game this season while holding opponents to 8.7.
  • In the second half, CSUSM is outshooting opponents by a wide 26-10 margin.
  • With two more goals, the Cougars will match their goal total for the entire 2019 season (8).
  • Four of CSUSM’s six goals this season have come in the second half.

COUGAR OUTLOOK

  • CSUSM has 12 returners from its 2019 squad, including Hannah Arcala who tallied one goal and a team-leading 28 shots.
  • With 2020 and 2021 newcomers combined, the Cougars have 16 players wearing a CSUSM uniform on the field for the first time.
  • The Cougars tied for eighth in the 2021 CCAA Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll with Cal State Monterey Bay.

THE RENNEISEN FILE

  • Head coach Bobby Renneisen enters his eighth year in charge of the women's program and 16th overall at CSUSM.
  • Renneisen's 2018 team made its second consecutive CCAA Tournament appearance in 2018 while also handing No. 1 UC San Diego its lone regular-season loss.
  • Between 2006-13, Renneisen was an assistant/associate head coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams.
  • As the women's head coach, Renneisen is 44-38-25 (.528) for his career with the Cougars.
